PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
